De La Olla by Kristian Espinoza

A poem on memory by Kristian Espinoza.

De La Olla

It’s the half-washed pots

The smoke stained walls

School photos colonized

By dust

Floors covered in mixed colored

Rugs

The thin paged bible devoured by

Highlighter marks

It’s this house tata bought for nana

That produced the best beans.

Beans I won’t taste anywhere else.

Hailing from Blythe, California, Espinoza's poetry paints a portrait of ancestry, memory, and heritage. He has graduated from Humboldt State University for Psychology and Ethnic Studies. De La Olla was featured in Call + Response Journal Volume I.
